Our plumbing and gas qualifications cover common and specialist areas for the industry, including water, sanitary, drainage, mechanical services, roofing and gas services. You will learn how to use plumbing hand and power tools, work safely on roofs, install water service controls and devices, pump sets and heating systems, cut and join sheet metal, install stormwater and sub-soil drainage systems, fabricate and install steel pressure piping, and install LPG systems.

Class G Gas Fitting Permit (Unsupervised) Skill Set
LEnhance your scope of employment in the plumbing and gas industries
Two weeks of full-time study and 250 hours recorded gasfitting will provide you with the necessary requirements to work unsupervised insatlling, testing and commissioning Type A gas appliances for both Natural and LPG gas.
Complete the requirements to be able to sign off on gas installations.
This course covers the design and size customer gas installations for domestic and commercial proprieties, caravan and marine craft installations for both Natural and LPG gas.
It is a theoretical based qualification only but you must have recorded 250 hours of gasfitting work which was completed under the supervision of a person holding a full Class G Gasfitting Permit.
Completion of this course and the 250 hours of recorded gasfitting (completed in the workplace) will allow you to apply to DMIRS (Energy Safety) for your Class G Gasfitting Permit which will then allow you to 'sign off' gas installations using the DMIRS - 'Notice of Completion'.
Certificate II in Drainage

This course will prepare you to work in construction installing drainage systems. You'll gain a variety of skills including the use of hand and power tools, and oxy-acetylene and arc welding at our major training centre at Balga.

Gas authorisation (category 2)
Learn to service and maintain Type B gas appliances
This course will give you the skills you need to gain Gas Authorisation (Category 2) from Energy Safety WA.
If you are looking to add a Gas Authorisation Category 2 qualification to your existing trade or engineering qualifications, complete North Metropolitan TAFE's 10 day course and you'll be able to service and maintain Type B gas appliances. This course will give you the skills you need to gain Gas Authorisation (Category 2) from Energy Safety WA.
If you have already successfully completed the appropriate two day supervised gas fitter course within two years of enrolling in this course then you will only need to complete an additional eight days of training.

North Metropolitan TAFE’s Gasfitter Supervised course meets the ‘Training Plan’ requirements set by EnergySafety WA that all supervised gasfitters should complete before they begin gasfitting work. This course is a pre-requisite to the eight day training program for Gas Authorisation Category 2, from EnergySafety WA.

Plumbing Contractor's Licence Skill Set

In just seven weeks of full-time study you'll have the necessary requirements to apply for your Plumbing Contractor’s Licence with the Plumbing Licensing Board. Or you can choose to specialise in drainage or backflow and water supply.
Become the real deal with just seven weeks of full-time study to earn your Plumbing Contractor’s Licence
On successful completion of this skill set, you will be able to apply to the Plumbing Licensing Board(opens in a new tab) (PLB), for your Plumbing Contractor’s Licence.
You will also gain the skills to be able to supervise works carried out by tradespersons and/or apprentices; build your own business; estimate job costs on water, sanitary and drainage systems, and much more.
You’ll need to successfully complete all of the units listed below to apply for the full Plumbing Contractor’s Licence. If however, you wish to specialise in only Drainage or Backflow and Water Supply, you will need to complete the core units and the units listed in your chosen specialisation.

Service Type A Gas Appliances Skill Set
Looking to add the ability to service Type A gas appliances to your scope of work?
Three weeks of full-time study will provide you with the necessary requirements to add Service Type A Gas Appliances to your scope of work.
Upgrade your skills to include the servicing of Type A gas appliances
Completion of this course will allow you to apply to DMIRS (the WA government department that has oversight of Energy Safety) and upgrade your current Class G Gasfitting Permit to include Servicing of Type A Gas appliances.
You'll cover general servicing, maintenance, fault diagnosis and fault rectification on a range of Type A Gas appliances during the course of this skill set.
Our up to date workshop facilities have an excellent range of Type A Gas appliances.
You'll have access to lecturers with extensive experience working with gas in the domestic and commercial appliance fields.
