All students need to have a USI to be able to enrol or re-enrol at North Metropolitan TAFE.
This is a number unique to each student and can be used at any training organisation or provider. The USI is available online at no cost and will stay with you for life. It will be recorded with any nationally recognised VET course that is undertaken. This means all your results will be kept in one online account that you control.
Your USI can be accessed online from your computer, tablet or smartphone and gives you access to your training records and results whenever you need them, for example, for a new employer or when you enrol to study at a new training organisation.
You can apply for your USI prior to coming to accept your place and enrol, or we can apply on your behalf. www.usi.gov.au(opens in a new tab)
Write your USI down and bring it with you on enrolment day with your form of ID that you used to create your USI.
Identification will be required in the form of:
- Driver's licence
- Medicare card
- Australian Passport
- Visa (with non-Australian passport) for international students
- Australian birth certificate. Please note an extract is not sufficient.
- Certificate of registration by decent
- Citizenship certificate
- ImmiCard
USI and myGov
From December 2023 students will be able to link their USI account to their myGov account.
By linking their USI account within myGov, students can use a single secure sign in to conveniently access other linked government services – such as Centrelink, Medicare or the Australian Taxation Office.
Students can still log in to the USI Student Portal the same way they did before. Linking their USI account within myGov gives students more ways to access their USI.
You will need an active USI account before you can link your USI to myGov.
