As Australia’s population and workforce ages, life expectancy increases and the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) continues to be rolled out, the need for qualified health, aged care and disability support professionals grows.

We are the largest vocational provider of nursing and health training in WA, providing significant training for the direct client care sector to ensure we are creating skilled graduates ready to support the needs of our community.

 

Our expertise

Aged Care and Disability Enterprise Training Program

NMTAFE is partnering with enterprises and consortiums, specifically those in the social and allied health sector, to train existing full-time, parttime and casual workers to fill current skills gaps and future workforce requirements through traineeships and skill sets.

We believe keeping employees current with quality standards and best practice is a challenge due to the cost and backfilling of staff.

Our facilities

Joondalup (McLarty Avenue) campus

This campus features a state-of-the-art simulation hospital and nursing wards, giving our health and nursing students an understanding of what they will experience in their workplaces.

A Disability and Aged Care Workforce Training Centre, which features a Senior Wellness day Centre, provides both internal and exterior spaces for seniors and those with a disability to visit.

This simulated training experience allows students to gain valuable skills in providing assistance to clients with regaining independence, group activities and encouraging social interaction.

Mount Lawley campus

Our Mount Lawley campus focuses on delivering qualification in the health and nursing sectors. The campus a simulated hospital learning environment and a purpose built training space to deliver Allied Health qualifications to support growth within the aged care and disability sector.

This skill set has been established to provide you with additional clinical skills and assessment skills if you are working within the aged care sector.

Residents within the aged care sector have increasingly complex health care needs and higher acuity levels. The skills gained from this skill set will enable you to work with and support the Registered Nurse in the assessment of clients and delivery of clinical care.  The units have a focus on medication and recognising and reporting signs of deterioration in clients.

North Metro TAFE has strong industry relationships and a great team of current and engaging lecturers to support you through your learning journey.

Delivery is a mix of online and on campus practical laboratory and simulated assessment sessions. Online learning will be supported by collaboration sessions and you will be required to attend our Mt Lawley campus on three days.

Successful completion of this skill set will provide you with credit towards CHC43015 Certificate IV in Ageing Support.

This skill set has been developed to promote safe food practices, infection prevention, and control and safe manual handling measures.

This skill set has been developed to promote safe food practices, infection prevention, and control and safe manual handling measures. These measures will assist in providing a safe environment and hygiene practices when preparing, handling, serving and assisting  with meals. Ancillary aged care and personal care staff including cooks, and chefs as well as staff involved in meal delivery and assisting clients with their meals will benefit from this food handling skill set.

You will understand how infections are spread, ways of preventing the spread of infection and how to protect yourself and others from infection.  It is most suited for those that are working in the health care sector, or those that would like to acquire a new skill before returning to employment.

This online course allows you to undertake studies within your own timeframe. You will receive a short induction and ongoing support from your lecturer. Once you have completed the online study component you will be required to book into a four hour practical lab session at our Mount Lawley campus where you will practice skills and undertake a workplace assessment.
