Because of the sheer size and scope of the industry, there is an abundance of opportunities available for people at every stage of their career across a variety of different organisational bodies.
With thousands of kilometres of passenger, freight and heavy haul rail spanning WA, the rail sector is critical to the state’s economy to support mining, agriculture and trade.
In addition to the Public Transport Authority’s METRONET project, there are many large organisations constantly looking for the right people to join their ranks. This not only means a variety of roles available, but also a certain level of job security – the rail industry isn’t going anywhere.

METRONET
METRONET is Perth’s most ambitious rail program and the single largest investment in public transport that our city has seen. It will deliver approximately 72 kilometres of new passenger rail and up to 18 new stations.
METRONET will need 3,000+ skilled workers at its peak to support rolling stock manufacturing and maintenance, rail operations and rail infrastructure.
METRONET Trades Training Centre
Our METRONET Trades Training Centre is located at our Midland campus. This specialised facility will train WA workers for jobs in the sector.
We are working with METRONET, the Public Transport Authority and key project stakeholders to develop specific training to ensure workers are skilled to support the construction and maintenance phases of the project.
