This course builds on the skills gained in the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice. It will give you the essential skills and knowledge of current project management practices.

The Diploma allows you to expand and extend your already existing management skills with units that will teach you an understanding of management in many fields. Completing this qualification will help you in a career as a contract coordinator, project manager, quality administrator or risk management professional.

Eager to get the Diploma of Project Management but short on time? Our intensive program is designed for people who work in Project Management roles. Initially you will attend classes for six days on campus and then complete assessments using work related projects that you are currently working on or have recently completed.

Half-price

This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills program, through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession.

Online

Some of our Online courses can be done completely online. However, some of the courses require a practical component or assessment that can't be done online, and some may be a mix of online and on campus learning. We’ll let you know what's required for your course. For all the details and a full list of Online courses, check out the Online study and application page.

If this course is deemed competitive, you will be informed during your application via TAFE Admissions and additional entrance requirements will apply.

Completion of WACE General or ATAR (Minimum C Grades) or equivalent Completion of WACE General or ATAR or equivalent (minimum C Grades) Certificate III

Please note that school leavers or those with little work experience may wish to consider commencing their training in this field by first completing the Certificate IV in Project Management Practice.
You will need to be employed in a project leadership and management role where you will be able to undertake project management duties and manage a project.  
You should also have a sound theoretical knowledge base and use a range of specialised, technical, and managerial competencies to initiate, plan, execute and evaluate your own work and/or the work of others.    
 
Part of your assessment will be undertaken in your workplace – we recommend you also speak to your employer to ensure they support this. 

You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.

Online delivery

To successfully complete the course, it's recommended you have access to a PC, Laptop or Chromebook with a camera and microphone (inbuilt or separately) with reliable internet access. Tablets are not recommended.

It is important you attend course orientation before commencing your study and a date, time and link will be provided to you. If you are unable to attend, a recording will be made available to you.

There will be set times and days for online sessions, which, while not compulsory, give you the opportunity to ask lecturers questions. Recordings of these sessions are available on the NMT learning platform

You can spread your study commitment over more than two years, but we recommend you complete the course within two years as Training Packages may change,

To complete the course within one year, and this is the recommended option, we suggest you:

  • Complete 6 units per semester (6 months)
  • Take part in regularly scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 10 - 12 hours per week individual study

To spread the course load over one and a half to two years, you'll need to:

  • Complete 3 - 5 units per semester (6 months)
  • Take part in regularly scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 6 - 10 hours per week individual study
Intensive 

This course will require your attendance 6 days on campus, and you will then be notified by your lecturer of any follow up online Collaborate sessions that may support you during your course.

At-home study

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

This qualification is not suitable for school leavers as it reflects the role of individuals in project leadership and management roles  who are responsible for applying management skills and knowledge to their work. Students should have a significant work history to draw on to be able to relate to the course content.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

Successful completion of the Diploma of Project Management can open up a range of further study options and may help you gain entry and/or advanced standing towards a university degree.

North Metropolitan TAFE has an articulation agreement with Edith Cowan University (ECU) and successful completion of this Diploma of Project Management will make you eligible for 120 credit points or 8 units or 1 year of credit/recognition of prior learning (CRPL)/advanced standing into ECU's W23 Bachelor of Commerce.
