Kick start your career and existing passion for cyber security with this specialised skill set

This course will provided you with techniques that are a springboard for further study and then onto a platform for deciding from the many different Cyber Security employment avenues available.

You will cover four underpinning areas that give you confidence in exploring techniques in tackling cyber attacks and gain a broad range of skills.

This course is focused on people who have made the decision to start their journey to becoming a Cyber Security professional. It will give you key skills required to continue your studies. Completion of the skill set adds credit towards the Certificate IV of Cyber Security, which is held in high regard Australia wide and helps lead into the Advanced Diploma in Cyber Security.

  • Securing various OS platforms (including an introduction to Hardware Security)
  • An understanding of popular attack trends and the best-practice responses using proven Cyber Security frameworks
  • Use current industry analytical tools to investigate network, system and application incidents for anomaly detection
  • Learn Python scripting language for programming techniques used in the field

This course will be FREE from 1 January 2023. The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government.

This job ready skill set is part of the Skills Ready program. All job ready skill sets are available for everyone to study, some are free for everyone, some are free for eligible people (including displaced workers, concession students and youth up to 25 years not at school).

There are no prerequisites to gain entry into this course. However, if you have no prior IT experience, it is recommended you complete the Introduction to Cyber Security skill set first.

You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.

Delivery is a mix of scheduled Collaborate (virtual classroom) and online self paced sessions, with some face to face tutorials.

Combined (Online & On campus) - Perth 

Monday night - first 3 weeks in the classroom and then online, 5.30pm to 8.30pm, delivering the following:

  • VU23214 Configure and secure networked end points
  • VU23217 Recognise the need for cyber security in an organisation

Thursday night - first 4 weeks in the classroom and then online, 5.30pm to 7.30pm, delivering the following:

  • ICTPRG435 Write scripts for software applications
  • VU23216 Perform basic cyber security data analysis

Please note: eligible students study this course absolutely free. If you are not eligible you can expect to pay $391.60

You will need to have access to a computer and the internet.

This course will run subject to enrolment numbers. If you submit an expression of interest, this will be processed once dates are confirmed. If the course doesn't run your details will be kept to be notified of the next available intake.
