Be equipped to tackle the network security challenges faced by Australian businesses, services and industry with this specialised course in cyber security

Cyber attacks on Australian networks are an ever-increasing threat to individuals, businesses and national security and there is currently a skills shortage in this very specialised sector of the IT industry. You'll gain insights into mitigation techniques that are key to tackling potential cyber attacks faced by modern industry by completing North Metropolitan TAFE's Certificate IV in Cyber Security.

Our Certificate IV in Cyber Security is a technician level qualification that will provide you with the knowledge and a comprehensive set of technical skills that will mean you are job ready and highly employable.

There are currently two study options for this course, On campus which is face-to-face, full-time and Combined (Online and on campus) which is delivered in the evenings.

The Combined (Online and on campus) study option is ideal for IT staff who want to upskill into a cyber security role or for the passionate cyber security enthusiast. 
New candidates with a limited background in IT should consider the On campus study option, or enrol for the Certificate III in Information Technology (Cyber Security) instead.

  • Monitor the risk of cyber security attack

  • Protect an organisation from insider security breaches
  • Develop systems to minimise network vulnerabilities and risks

This course will be FREE from 1 January 2023. The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government.

If this course is deemed competitive, you will be informed during your application via TAFE Admissions and additional entrance requirements will apply.

School Leaver Non-School Leaver AQF
C Grades in Year 11 WACE General English, and OLNA; or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 11 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate II or Certificate III

On campus

Attendance in class
This course is equivalent to 2.5 days per week when studied full time across two semesters.

Online workload (on-campus delivery)
This course contains one self-paced online module which requires approximately two hours of study per week. 

At-home study
As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete approximately 5 - 10 hours of additional study each week outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research. You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

Combined (Online & On campus)

Delivery for this course includes a mix of online structured learning and on campus classes and will take four semesters to complete. Classes will run:

  • Online Monday, with and presentation between 6:00pm – 9:00pm
  • On campus Tuesday and Thursday, 6:00pm – 9:00pm

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
