Are you looking for an electronics career and current skills?
When you complete the Certificate II in Data and Voice Communications you'll be flicking the switch on a career in electronics, as a data cabler or telecommunications technician (with additional training).
It includes Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) requirements for open cabler registration.
- Install and maintain telecommunication cabling
- Secure electrotechnological equipment
- Assemble and dismantle components
- Use cabling drawings, standards, codes and specifications
- Workplace health and safety

You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees.
As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.
Standard requirements when on campus are:
- Safety glasses
- Safety gloves (Cut 2 Resistant)
- Safety-cap work shoes/boots
- A scientific calculator
Safety glasses and gloves ($10) will be stocked and available for sale if needed on the following campuses:
- Balga
- Clarkson
- East Perth
- Midland
You will need to have an Engineering Symbol Function on your calculator, not usually found on school calculators. Although a school calculator will work, you will have many more key strokes and have to interpret the readings, which usually leads to errors and mistakes.

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.
Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

Successful completion of this qualification provides you with the opportunity to gain an apprenticeship/traineeship in electronic communications servicing. You will need to be employed and registered as an apprentice/trainee before you can commence apprenticeship/traineeship training.
