This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills program, through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession.

As the first TAFE in WA to open a Cyber Security Training Centre, we are skilling Western Australians to take on jobs in the growing cyber security industry. Our cyber security courses focus on the practical and theoretical dimensions of IT security equipping you with a suite of essential skills to combat threats and protect an organisation's assets.

The Advanced Diploma of Information Technology (Cyber Security) is a para professional qualification that will provide you with the knowledge and skills needed to offer a comprehensive set of technical services within your company or organisation such as:

  • performing a security risk assessment 
  • implementing best practice for identity management
  • evaluating an organisation's compliance with relevant cyber security standards, laws and codes of practice
  • evaluating and implementing security protection devices and software
  • managing a cyber-security environment
  • assessing and securing cloud services
  • performing digital forensic investigations on workstations and mobile devices

Graduates of the course will be able to seek employment as cyber security para professionals in a range of commercial enterprises/organisations and government bodies seeking to improve their cyber security or, work independently as freelance cyber security consultants.

To be successful in this course and in the cyber security industry, you should consider if you have the following attributes:

  • Good at maths
  • Able to cope with physical and psychological demands of this type of work
  • Basic Understanding of ICT: Students should have a foundational knowledge of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), including basic programming, network structure, databases, and hardware components.
  • Interest in Cybersecurity: Since the course is heavily oriented towards cybersecurity, students should have a genuine interest in this area. They should be curious about understanding different types of cyber threats, how they work, and how they can be prevented.
  • Problem-Solving Skills: The ability to solve problems and think critically is crucial for this course. Many units involve identifying threats, assessing vulnerabilities, and finding appropriate solutions.
  • Ethical Mindset: Given the course's focus on ethics and privacy in ICT environments, students should have a good sense of ethics and understand the importance of maintaining privacy and security in digital environments.
