Fashion and Textile Design

Studying fashion and textile design at North Metropolitan TAFE offers students a unique experience; they are the only courses in Western Australia that integrate both textile and garment design.

Studios are exciting and creative spaces where skills are developed and practiced. Original design interpretations, lateral thinking and extensive research are encouraged.  You will learn an impressive skill set that will prepare you for work in the real world.

Our fashion program is built around the recognition of current and future trends in fashion, with an emphasis on good quality design and higher level skills.

During your studies, you will gain extensive knowledge in researching ideas, marketing, figure and design drawing, design pattern making, designing and printing textiles, and garment design and construction.

A career in fashion is rewarding and challenging and offers diverse employment opportunities, further study pathways and opportunities to start your own fashion labels.

The Graduates 2022 & 2023

NMT's Fashion Graduates are an impressive cohort of designers; their debut collections embody a new kind of optimism exploring diverse themes.
As new designers, they feel invested in working with alternative ways of garment production; more sustainable, more collaborative and more local.
From form to fabric design, the collections of our Fashion Graduates represent the excitement of a rapidly changing design environment.

"The environment and culture that North Metro provides has formed and shaped the designer I am today. I now feel equipped with the necessary tools to enter the work force both locally and internationally, supported by my closest peers as well as extensive skill set in garment and textile design."

“North Metropolitan TAFE is where I started my journey working alongside industry experts and the latest technologies, resources and equipment. I feel confident I have everything I need to excel further in the future and value the support, love and passion from the lecturers and long life friends I’ve made here.”  Ashantae Faulkner @avision.ashantae
