Gain the knowledge and skills to step into the dynamic and fast paced world of Fitness

Immerse yourself in practical leaning in our fully equipped gymnasiums at our Perth or Joondalup campuses located just five minutes walk from the train line.

We offer real world knowledge to plan and conduct fitness programs for a variety of clients and to build up your communication, organisation and time management skills through our locally, and nationally qualified team of lecturers.

You will learn about the roles of fitness instruction and exercise science while gaining an overview of work performance in the industry. You will undertake Industry relevant learning in areas that include; anatomy, physiology, appraisals and programming, analysis of risk, responding to emergency situations and the maintenance of equipment.

As part of this qualification, you will undertake a supervised work placement in the Fitness Industry where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

  • Ability to deliver Circuit style classes, to athletes or the general community, including youth and young teens
  • Practical skills for working with a wide range of clients including youth, older adults and individuals with disabilities
  • Communication skills to positively motivate others to succeed in their fitness goals

On campus

Classes will be run over three days per week on campus, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday 9:00am - 4.15pm plus Thursday is an online learning day and will consist of Collaborate (lecturer led) online sessions. These sessions will be recorded.

There will also be self-paced activities and work placement.

At-home study

As well as the in-class and/or scheduled online component, you will need to complete approximately 1 - 2 hours of additional study each week outside of scheduled classes, including private study, assignment preparation, and research. 

You will need to have the basic technical requirements for at-home study. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

This qualification includes a supervised work placement of approximately 30 hours in the Fitness Industry where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned.

Work placement is in addition to on campus face to face classes and is usually undertaken towards the end of each semester at a time that suits both the student and employer. 

You will be required to organise your own workplace with the guidance of our expert lecturers. 

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

In addition, the following uniform is required to be purchased:

  • Polo shirt with NMTAFE logo (approx. $40)

Students are responsible for purchasing their own uniform. Further information will be provided at Orientation. Please note uniform prices are subject to change.
