Mandatory Climate Reporting - Webinar

Get the facts about mandatory climate reporting

On March 27, the Australian Federal Government introduced legislation for mandatory climate reporting for businesses, commencing in January 2025. Much of the legislation aligns with the latest global standards released by the International Sustainability Standard Board (ISSB) last year and includes reporting on Scope 3 (or supply chain) emissions, as well disclosing targets and actions across all three scopes. As such, this legislation is likely to have a ripple effect throughout the economy, impacting businesses large and small. It has been said that this is the largest change to corporate reporting in a generation.

According to the Treasury Department, the aim is to have a "rigorous, internationally aligned and credible climate disclosure regime which will support Australia’s reputation as an attractive destination for international capital and help draw the investment required for the transition to net zero. It will bring Australia in line with other jurisdictions, including the EU, UK, New Zealand and Japan."*

This means that companies will need to be equipped to provide climate-related financial disclosures.
