The range of competencies delivered in this course has been developed to assist you in planning, preparing and carrying out the work required as a paralegal in the legal sector, supporting law practitioners and clients.

You'll gain a solid understanding of the Australian legal system and the application of legal principles in criminal, contract, litigation, family and tort law. You'll also cover topics such how to carry out as legal research, develop business networks and relationships, take instructions in a legal environment and write complex documents.

Our highly skilled lecturers have current industry knowledge to provide you with the most relevant and current legal sector skills. 
Successful completion of this Diploma of Paralegal Services will equip you with the skills to provide legal direction and support within both public and private sector roles.

Please note you must have completed all of the following units OR have two years equivalent, full-time, relevant work experience.

  • BSBLEG314 Protect information in a legal services environment
  • BSBLEG423 Conduct simple legal research
  • BSBLEG424 Support the drafting of complex legal documents

Online

This qualification will be a combined delivery mode consisting of both on campus sessions and online delivery.

It has been designed to help you study while working around busy professional and personal commitments. 
Online sessions include collaborate (lecturer led) classes for 1 - 2  hours that may be recorded, readings, pre-recorded content and self-paced activities.

There will be five compulsory, full day (9:00am - 3:30pm) on campus sessions scheduled throughout the year. You will be advised of these dates at orientation.

Please note the following units* are delivered through a mix of on campus and online study, which includes on campus workshops and online Collaborate sessions:
•    BSBLEG421 Apply understanding of the Australian legal system
•    BSBLEG524 Apply principles of evidence law in matters under litigation

* These units will only be offered to students who have not completed a Certificate IV in Legal Services.

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

This course provides a range of opportunities to gain employment in law firms or departments as a paralegal or administration support for a legal team. Other job titles may include:

  • Paralegal
  • Law Clerk/Legal Clerk
  • Legal Secretary
