Upcycling is popular and this activity will show students how upcycling, restoring and rejuvenating furniture can be a rewarding career and contribute to sustainability. Students will learn how to effectively and safely use lacquers, putty and shellac  to carry out furniture restoration.

Sessions include a tour of NMTAFE's music department including its live venue, rehearsal rooms, recording studios, editing suites, and radio stations. Some instrumental and/or vocal ability is recommended to get the most from this program.

The students will experience hands on activities including CNC Router Machine programming and production, edgebander use and Beam saw CNC operation giving the students a serious insight for future careers.

Students will have the opportunity to learn about belt splicing in the mining industry and will learn about joining and repairing conveyor belts using metal hinges plates and fasteners. The salary for qualified belt splicers is between $120,000 and $250,000 per year so it is a very important trade for the transportation of mining resources.

Introduction to the world of Light Fabrication. Safety and OHS will be addressed towards the unique equipment involved in the fabrication industry. Students will engage in a small fabrication project using the latest welding and polishing processes and leave the day with their creation.
