The selflessness and quick thinking of a North Metropolitan TAFE (NMTAFE) nursing graduates was recognised this week with WA Police Detective Sergeant Jason Macander surprising Danielle Fleiser with a special Certificate of Appreciation at her nursing graduation.

Det Sgt Macander presented Danielle with the award in recognition of her actions in the early hours of Sunday, 11 June 2023 at the Hillary's Boat Harbour, where she identified and selflessly acted on an incident where a person was found to be in a potentially life threatening situation. Danielle didn't hesitate, providing first aid to the person, while also alerting authorities.

"You will be a valuable asset to the health profession and we wish you all the very best in your new career," Det Sgt Macander said.

Danielle said First Aid was part of her Diploma of Nursing qualification which assisted in the situation.

"People were just stepping over her and I just thought that if it was me in that situation I would want someone to help so I didn't hesitate," she said. "It's really nice, and really surprising to be awarded."

Danielle graduated from her Diploma of Nursing on Thursday at a ceremony at our East Perth campus.

Congratulations Danielle, a truly well deserved award.
