Building and Energy and the Electrical Licensing Board have established Essential Performance Capabilities (EPCs) Required for Licensed Electricians ― a set of 55 competencies as safety outcomes for licensing purposes. These are a nationally consistent set as agreed by the National Uniform Electrical Licensing Council.
There are 10 units in UEE30820 and 8 units in UEE33020 apprenticeship courses that cover critical EPCs used for issuing of an Electrical Licence.

These units include the following additional requirements in the Assessment Conditions:
- Evidence of Performance Evidence items of this unit must be gathered in authentic workplace operational conditions (not simulated) before final determination of competence in this unit can be made.
The purpose of these additional requirements is to ensure that evidence is gathered in authentic workplace settings and not solely limited to activities completed in institutional environments.
North Metropolitan TAFE use a profiling system called Ready Skills to meet these requirements and each student will be given access to Ready Skills along with login details and instructions on how to use the system. There is an app that can be downloaded for use with Apple or Android devices, or the system can be access from an internet browser.
Allocated supervisors will also be sent log in details as they will be required to approve entries. Additional supervisor accounts can be requested here.
What does this mean for employers and apprentices?
For the 10 units that require specific performance evidence, the student MUST be exposed to these tasks detailed on this list (258 KB) (PDF document) in authentic workplace operational conditions (not simulated).
Ready Skills at NMTAFE is set up for Electrical apprentices to record tasks completed, it is a requirement that the tasks for the units indicated are completed two times on site and then forwarded to the supervisor for approval. This is then monitored by lecturing staff through the Ready Skills platform.
What if we don't perform those tasks in our workplace?
We appreciate that not all business’ perform all tasks across an Industry area – if you do not have opportunities for your apprentice to perform these tasks within your workplace you will need to make arrangements for them to undertake these tasks in an alternative workplace, using other contacts within industry.
It is expected that students will have 95% of the task recording completed prior to being scheduled for Stage 7 and 100% completed before sitting their Capstone assessment (Stage 8)
