Pre-apprenticeships

Whether you're starting new, rejoining the workforce or switching careers, a pre-apprenticeship will help you feel confident you've got the skills, knowledge and experience employers want. A pre-apprenticeship could be the beginning of an exciting trade career.

Our pre-apprenticeship courses can take up to six months to complete, depending on the course you choose (please see the course page for specific duration information). Delivery is usually a combination of traditional classroom learning and hands-on work experience at TAFE and out in the real world.

Why do a pre-apprenticeship?

A pre-apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to see if you’re the right fit for the trade you’re considering, and unlike an apprenticeship or a traineeship you don’t need to find someone to employ you first.

During the work placement component you'll be supported and mentored by qualified staff, and experience the day to day duties for the occupation that you're interested in.

Completing a pre-apprenticeship shows future employers that you’re keen to learn and work, helping you to stand out from the competition. You’ll also graduate with a qualification (usually a Certificate II), which may give you credits towards your apprenticeship or traineeship in the future, shortening the length of your training.

Right now a number of our pre-apprenticeships have their course fees reduced by half as part of our Lower fees, local skills program. There's never been a better time to launch your new career!
