Trade Skills Recognition (TSR)

TSR is available to candidates looking to get their trade skills and knowledge recognised with a formal qualification.  This is done through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in qualifications that are required to be undertaken by an Apprenticeship.

Candidates that are successful in the TSR process may be able to make an application for a WA Trade Certificate.  An RTO (e.g. North Metropolitan TAFE) can submit the application for a TSR Trade Certificate on behalf of a candidate and the assessment for eligibility is made by the WA Department of Training and Workforce Development's Apprenticeship Office(opens in a new tab) ... see their TSR fact sheet and application form(opens in a new tab) .

Note you may ONLY apply for TSR if you can meet all the requirements of the qualification through previous study and/or RPL. If there are any of the requirements that cannot be met and require training to fill that gap, then you would need to complete the gap training under a Training Contract (i.e. within an Apprenticeship arrangement) - see our Apprenticeships page for all the details.
