Studying this course will provide you with the knowledge and training to manufacture, repair and maintain trim components of a range of motor vehicles, marine craft, recreational and other vehicles in the automotive industry.

Get into the timber machining industry

This course will provide you with the opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge to perform timber and composites machining for the manufacture of furniture, built in and freestanding cabinetry and other timber components. You will utilise a range of static machinery as well as specialist computer numerically controlled (CNC) machinery to manufacture components as specified in working drawings and cutting lists. You will also gain the fundamental knowledge required to perform machine set up, operational maintenance and basic troubleshooting.

North Metropolitan TAFE’s wall and ceiling lining qualifications will see you ready to construct bulkheads, assemble partitions, install and finish plasterboard, fibre cement, wet area lining systems, dry wall systems and suspended ceilings. 

You will also learn how to work effectively and sustainably in the construction industry, plan and organise work, carry out measurements and calculations and apply Work Health and Safety requirements.

North Metropolitan TAFE’s telecommunications qualifications will set you up for a career in Data & Voice Communications, and Electronics & Communications. Our programs provide you with the skills and knowledge needed to enter the telecommunications industry and manage its convergent technologies, including radio, optical, data and internet protocol (IP) networks. 

With North Metropolitan TAFE’s solid plastering qualifications, you will learn how to apply plain, decorative and protective coverings of plaster, cement or similar materials to the interiors and exteriors of structures. 

Solid plasterers are responsible for straightening corners, angles, wall and ceiling surfaces, cleaning and preparing surfaces, mixing and applying coats of plaster, cement or similar materials to walls and ceilings, levelling and smoothing surfaces, and applying finishing coats of plaster. 

With North Metropolitan TAFE’s painting qualifications, you will gain essential skills and knowledge in processes, materials, tools and equipment used in the industry, and develop specialist expertise in the preparation, application and maintenance of a variety of surface coatings.

You will be trained in a wide range of techniques, including wall-papering, texture coating, staining, spray painting and colour matching skills, in simulated work environments.

Architectural drafters and building designers hold key positions in many sectors of the construction industry. You will learn how to convert an idea into clear, dimensioned drawings, and to provide the builder with the necessary information for construction. With a healthy level of housing, public infrastructure works and mining projects in Western Australia, this is a field with good employment prospects. 

Our plumbing and gas qualifications cover common and specialist areas for the industry, including water, sanitary, drainage, mechanical services, roofing and gas services. You will learn how to use plumbing hand and power tools, work safely on roofs, install water service controls and devices, pump sets and heating systems, cut and join sheet metal, install stormwater and sub-soil drainage systems, fabricate and install steel pressure piping, and install LPG systems.
