Entrance Requirements

It is recommended that you are over the age of 18 before enrolling in this course as the work placement and employment outcomes are very limited for students under the age of 18.

Work placement

As part of this course you may be required to undertake a total of 160 hours work placement.
You will however need to be enrolled in the appropriate units to be offered a work placement - it is not a standard for all enrolments.
Please note eligibility for supervised work placement is subject to obtaining a satisfactory Police Clearance. You will also need a Working with Children Check if your placement involves contact with children. Additonal costs will include $65 National Police Clearance, through Australia Post (it is best to apply for this first) and $11 Working With Children Check (WWCC).

How to apply

You must apply to study through Consumers of Mental Health Western Australia (COMHWA).

The Mental Health Commission supports COMHWA by providing subsidies to assist with the financial cost of studying. COMHWA leads a screening process for each new cohort of learners on an annual basis, therefore this course is available only to those who apply to study via COMHWA’s recruitment process.

Please note however, that all course enquiries should be directed to Tracey Hennessy, Course Coordinator, Tracey.Hennessy@nmtafe.wa.edu.au, as potential students who are working in a peer work role could be eligible to join the course and/or apply for RPL.
