Entrance Requirements

It is recommeneded you have:

  • A qualification at Certificate III level or higher in an area involving provision of direct client care or support; or
  • Skills equivalent to the qualification requirement validated through a recognition of prior learning process; or
  • Substantial industry experience, on the job training and development along with supervisor assessment of capacity.
Important information

This skill set will be delivered over ten weeks, in workshops run every second Wednesday.

Workshops will take place on 7 & 21 October, 4 & 18 November and 2 December.

Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance

The Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance is appropriate for new or Certificate III qualified allied health assistants who wish to further develop their professional skills. You'll be working under the delegation of the qualified professional in a rich variety of settings to promote participation in and achievement of functional independence in activity.

You do not need to have completed a Certificate III in Allied Health Assistance first but some students may find this beneficial especially if you are returning to study after a long break or upon leaving high school. If you enjoy working with people, have strong communication/ interpersonal skills and believe you have the ability to study at a certificate IV level it may be possible for you to enter this course.

Work placement

In addition to the 16 units this course includes a 120 hour practical placement. This is six weeks of full-time work placement which North Metropolitan TAFE organises for you.

Important information

Some employers require Certificate IV in Allied Health Assistance as a minimum for employment, especially those where home visiting and acute rehabilitation programs involve more complex clients and less frequent supervision by health professionals.
