Childcare Introduction Skill Set

If you are considering a career in childcare, you can get an idea of what's in store with this introductory skill set

You'll gain an understanding of the core skills required to work in child care and start on a pathway to further study and employment.

Training will be delivered in a combination of ways over 10 weeks, including one day per week, 9:00am - 2:30pm plus a 27.5 hour work placement.

Before attending your work placement you will be required to obtain:

  • Department of Education Police Clearance

Under 18 students will be required to obtain a Confidential Statutory Declaration.

Work placement

As part of this qualification you will undertake a supervised work placement where you will be able to apply the skills and knowledge you have learned in a classroom setting.

The COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of building the capacity and understanding of the workforce across a range of areas.

This skill set has been developed to promote safe food practices, infection prevention, and control and safe manual handling measures. These measures will assist in providing a safe environment and hygiene practices when preparing, handling, serving and assisting  with meals. Ancillary aged care and personal care staff including cooks, and chefs as well as staff involved in meal delivery and assisting clients with their meals will benefit from this food handling skill set.
