The COVID19 pandemic has highlighted the importance of building the capacity and understanding of the workforce across a range of areas.

This skill set has been developed to promote safe food practices, infection prevention, and control and safe manual handling measures.

This skill set will be delivered through a mix of online training and on campus practical laboratory and simulated sessions.
You will be required to attend 4 days on campus as part of the training.

Employers within the aged care and community services sector use a values based model for employment supported by the relevant skills and qualifications.
Working with children check/police clearance will be required to undertake work in the aged care, community services and health sector.

Support people with disability to reach their potential and live an independent life

On completion of this course you could find work in a variety of settings such as residential, individual support, employment, recreational/day support, advocacy and case management. You'll gain real industry experience and apply your training in a meaningful way though a supervised work placement.

Work placement

As part of this course you will complete a 120 hour supervised work placement in a facility providing services to disabled clients. Before you start work placement you will need to obtain a police clearance (approx. $72). 

Important information

It is strongly recommended that you see your doctor about having a flu vaccination.

Typical Timetable

Full-time - 3 days per week on campus for 15 weeks followed by 4 week full-time industry placement.
Part-time - 1 day per week on campus for 3 terms and the a full-time placement.
Please note NMT also offers a partnership program with industry - 5 weeks intensive on campus program followed by 2 days per week industry placement plus 1 day per week on campus for the remainder of the semester.
