Seven deserving NMTAFE students were awarded valuable financial support from the Rotary Club of Scarborough to assist with their ongoing fees for 2025. The award ceremony, held at the Scarborough Surf Lifesaving Club on Thursday, 5 December, presented each of the students with Vocational Assistance scholarships. The event was attended by nominees, lecturers, and special guests who gathered to honour the students' achievements.

The Rotary scholarships provide essential support to students facing personal challenges, helping to alleviate the financial strain of ongoing education. These scholarships reflect a strong commitment to enabling students' continued learning despite the obstacles they may face.

One of the recipients, Jess, enrolled in a Certificate III in Community Services while managing ongoing mental health challenges. Having previously completed a Certificate III in Commercial Cookery in 2024, Jess aspires to work in restaurant kitchens. His lecturers observed his commitment to personal growth, noting significant improvements in his confidence and classroom participation at NMTAFE. Jess’ lecturer nominated him for the Rotary scholarship, and he was delighted to be chosen as one of the recipients. “The award boosted my confidence, and it shows I’m definitely on the right path,” Jess said.

Other recipients included Angelique, a legally blind student who fled war-torn Rwanda and is now pursuing her Certificate III and IV in Community Services, and Jeremy, who has an Intellectual Disability Disorder and is working towards his Certificate III in Hospitality. With the support of the Vocational Assistance scholarships, Jess, Angelique, Jeremy, and the other recipients can now concentrate on their studies without the burden of financial stress.

The Vocational Assistance scholarships offered by the Rotary Club of Scarborough, empower students to overcome challenges and pursue their dreams in their chosen fields of study.
