NMTAFE recognises lecturer with top training award

29 March 2021

North Metropolitan TAFE has announced Brendan Hibbert, lecturer for Graphic Design, as our 2020/21 Trainer of the Year through our Ambassadorship Program.

  • Graphic Design lecturer Brendan Hibbert awarded as the combined 2020/21 Trainer of the Year after 15 years working for TAFE.
  • NMTAFE holds an Ambassador Awards program each year recognising outstanding students and staff.
  • Brendan was announced as the joint 2020/21 winner after the Trainer Category of the 2020 awards was postponed due to COVID-19.

Brendan has 22 years’ experience in the graphic design industry having worked for clients across the globe with his own private practice.

This experience translates into his lecturing where he has not only provided a first class level of teaching over the past 15 years but also assisted students take their talents further through the international trade and skills competition, Worldskills  for the last five years.

Brendan said he was proud to be named Trainer of the Year, recognising his number of years lecturing graphic design students with us.

“We prepare students for their career [in graphic design] by giving them live simulated briefs while they are here in the classroom at TAFE,” he said.

“It gives them a rich dimension of competency dealing with the real world as they are studying and helps them transition more successfully into their industry,” he said.

Brendan said he enjoyed working at our Perth campus as it is in the heart of the creative hub in Northbridge.

Managing Director Michelle Hoad congratulated Brendan on his dedication to progressing the careers of his students through hands on experience which helped him claim the honour against a strong field.

Michelle also commended the three other finalists for their hard work, professionalism and dedication to their roles.

Finalists included: Joy Ott, lecturer Enrolled Nursing, Colleen Harris, lecturer Library & Information Services and Kristy Brown, lecturer Film & Television.
