Construction of the $5.6 million METRONET Trades Training Centre at our Midland campus has reached the next station, with Stage 2 works worth $4.6 million now underway.

John Holland Rail was awarded the contract for the design and construction of Stage 2 which will include:

  • Construction of a dual-track level crossing, including a maintenance track and crossover;
  • A stand-alone Signalling Equipment Room for hands-on training in using and maintaining signal equipment; and
  • A section of rail line to train students in the maintenance of various gauges of rail.

Our METRONET Trades Training Centre is WA’s first dedicated public facility supporting training for jobs in rail and meeting the diverse training needs of METRONET, developed in consultation with industry.

Minister for Education and Training, Sue Ellery says the State Government is committed to ensuring WA has the skills required to support transport infrastructure and to meet the demand of work.

“Major projects such as METRONET are creating thousands of local jobs and opportunities for local businesses,” she says.

Construction of Stage 2 is expected to be completed in October 2022, with training commencing in Semester 1, 2023.

Upon completion, our specialist rail facility will upskill workers in construction and maintenance of METRONET and rail rolling stock, and rail operations and signalling to support the state’s wider rail networks.
