NMTAFE has had the privilege of hosting eight Indonesian students this semester as part of a new scholarship program run by the Indonesian Government.

The Indonesian International Student Mobility Awards (IISMA) is the Government of the Republic of Indonesia scholarship scheme developed to fund Indonesian students for mobility program overseas.

The students, from all parts of Indonesia, had to apply through a very competitive process. They will spend one semester at NMTAFE, to experience our country’s culture and undertake practical assignments to enhance their skills.

While here the students have been studying business, marketing and communication and screen and media based at the Perth campus. The aim of the program is to enhance the students’ skills and experience while building international networks.

"I’ve especially enjoyed studying business here because of the business simulation classroom (CoLab) where I’ve learnt about writing documents, arranging meetings and finance - the learning is a lot more hands on and quite different from studying at home," said 21-year-old Medi from Sulawesi.

Indah from Jakarta said she really loves how Western Australians are very respectful of their work/life balance.

"We have been very welcomed into the classrooms by the students and lecturers, and I’ve also really enjoyed the class environment and the collaborative approach to learning as group," Indah said of the experience.

Guy Ramsay, lecturer for Management Legal and Government said, “the international students bring a welcomed and different cultural lens regarding digital marketing and how other countries consume media.”

“I have some international students that have worked for large media companies in Indonesia who contribute their experiences in class for the domestic students. The students have been consistently hardworking and strive to work hard to complete assessments to a high standard.”

The students will return home at the end of the semester with plans to return to visit and maybe work in their chosen field in Australia.  NMTAFE looks forward to welcoming more students through the IISMA program.
