The Mental Health and Community Services sector is a diverse and fast-growing industry. Whether you’re looking at entry-level roles, or to take on a career change where you can make a meaningful contribution you'll find this in the mental health sector. You'll be equipped to take on a wide range of opportunities after you've completed one of our mental health qualifications. To discover the opportunities to work in Western Australia’s mental health system, view potential careers on the WA Government's Mental Health Commission website.
In addition to the courses listed below, North Metropolitan TAFE delivers the Certificate IV Mental Health Peer Work but you must apply to study through Consumers of Mental Health Western Australia (COMHWA).
The course is a 12 month course commencing at the start of each calendar year.
The Mental Health Commission supports COMHWA by providing subsidies to assist with the financial cost of studying.
COMHWA leads an application process for each new cohort of learners on an annual basis, therefore this course is available only to those who apply to study via COMHWA’s recruitment process.
Please note however, that all course enquiries should be directed to Tracey.Hennessy@nmtafe.wa.edu.au or Phoebe.Wilson@nmtafe.wa.edu.au as potential students who are working in a peer work role could be eligible to join the course and/or apply for RPL
If you would like information on the times for next recruitment round please contact COMHWA on 9258 8911.
If you are an employer considering mental health peer workers or you currently have peer workers in your employment we can provide support in the form of a traineeship.
