The Animation & Games Design team had an amazing booth representing the college at this year’s Supanova, a 2-day comic con and gaming expo held at Perth’s Convention and Exhibition Centre.

North Metropolitan TAFE’s first ceramics exhibition featuring only SLICE short course students’ works took place last week at the college’s Showcase Gallery, in Perth campus.

The exhibition was open between 22-24 June and showcased almost 50 pieces from 18 selected students from the ceramics advanced class.

North Metropolitan TAFE ceramics lecturer Warrick Palmateer said the idea for the event came from students, who organised and managed all aspects of the exhibition.

North Metropolitan TAFE hosted a special Auslan Day at East Perth campus on Tuesday 6 June which saw more than 150 people attend.

The event was organised and managed by Certificate IV in Auslan students, as part of their assessment. Attendees included deaf children and their teachers from several schools, representatives from the WA Deaf Society, Sea Star Signers from Senses Australia, other industry/employer support organisations and friends and family of the students.

Health students will benefit from the latest virtual reality technology in their anatomy training thanks to a unique partnership between North Metropolitan TAFE’s Animation & Games Design and Health departments.

The first software and equipment demonstration was held at North Metropolitan TAFE’s East Perth campus. The idea came from Health (Aged Care) lecturer Michele Bishop, who wanted to learn more about VR (Virtual reality) and AR (Augmented reality) techniques to use as classroom delivery tools.

Peter Coghlan was a very active man. He practiced sports, he enjoyed the outdoors, he loved running and he was into martial arts as a teenager. He served in the British military for four years.

North Metropolitan TAFE Advanced Diploma of Photography Karen McGlue has pocketed the title of AIPP WA Ewan Robinson Student Photographer of the Year 2017.

More than 75 of Western Australia’s best professional photographers gathered in Perth on 11 May for the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (AIPP) WA Epson Professional Photography Awards presentation dinner at the Trustee Bar & Bistro.

North Metropolitan TAFE staff and students have joined last week’s Reconciliation Western Australia’s Terrace Walk for Reconciliation, to celebrate 25 years of the National Reconciliation movement.

Leading the North Metropolitan TAFE delegation, Managing Director Michelle Hoad spoke to the group about the importance of the occasion.

North Metropolitan TAFE Diploma of Events Management students have recently organised a special fundraising fashion show, using only Op Shop clothing items.

Benefiting Anglicare WA’s Y-Shac program, the show took place at North Metropolitan TAFE’s Perth campus courtyard on Wednesday 24 May and saw almost 200 guests attend.

Inspired by Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s “Thrift Shop”, the event was called “Pop Some Tags: The Opportunity Runway”. Students ran a clothing drive that was used for the fashion show; clothes were then donated to Y-Shac.

North Metropolitan TAFE Graphic Design students have just completed the 2017 Google Online Marketing Challenge.

The Google Online Marketing Challenge is a unique opportunity for students to experience and create online marketing campaigns using Google AdWords. Over 110,000 students and professors from almost 100 countries have participated in the past nine years.
