By completing one of North Metropolitan TAFE’s hairdressing courses, you will gain the skills and knowledge to create unique hairstyles, making people look and feel confident with their hairdo.
Our programs provide hands-on, practical experience to ensure you develop the skills in coordinating and training staff, technical leadership, specialised hair design and cutting, colouring and colour correction, hair extensions, scalp treatments and chemical reformation. You will also learn modern salon operations, including selling products and services, client consultation and advice, supervising junior staff, reception duties, financial transactions and safe work practices.

Certificate III in Hairdressing

On completion this apprenticeship course will give you the skills to work as a qualified hairdresser. You'll learn to cut hair using clippers or scissors; to shampoo, condition and rinse hair; and dry and style hair using brushes, combs, rollers and other equipment, along with a broad range of salon reception duties.A creative career that's a cut above the rest
When you successfully complete the Certificate III in Hairdressing you will have the practical skills and knowledge to work in a salon as a qualified hairdresser. You will also learn skills to operate a cash register and computer, perform reception duties such as answering telephone calls, making appointments, and write up client record cards.

When you complete the Certificate IV In Hairdressing you'll have the advanced skills required to further your hairdressing career. You will gain the specialist knowledge and skills to incorporate and further current creative trends and lead teams.

North Metropolitan TAFE's Diploma of Salon Management focuses on the skills needed to manage the day to day operation of a personal services business, including hiring and managing staff, liaising with business stakeholders and managing the financial operations of a salon. At this level you'll develop the ability to create and establish a client service culture, plan and implement marketing activities, and ensure that all workplace health and safety requirements are met in a sustainable business environment.
You'll be learning from professionals who have extensive industry experience and active industry networks.
