Support for schools

Helping you to help your students

Further study at TAFE or university has been shown to increase young people’s chance of getting a job by 86% .  There's never been a better time for Western Australian school students to embark on a vocational education and training (VET) pathway at North Metropolitan TAFE.

Are your school graduates ready for the workplace?  Do they want to go to university, but not sure if they will get the grades?

  • Our courses get students ready for the workplace and provide credit towards university courses.  Our job is to make your students more employable, from problem solving skills to technical know-how and practical experience.
  • Businesses hiring new staff want immediate productivity and fresh ideas.  They don’t have the time or the budget to train people up.  At TAFE, students receive practical training from experienced industry professionals, which means they will know how to answer questions in a job interview, and how to make a contribution day one, on the job. These days all industries have standard operating procedures and protocols; specialised IT systems; and their fair share of jargon.  AT TAFE we equip students with what they need to be job ready.

Automation, disruption, boom and bust cycles, the gig economy — how do you know where your students will find secure careers?  We understand that providing good advice regarding a volatile labour market is pretty tricky.  It is our job to not just connect students to their passion and talents, but to also steer them to a real job opportunity.  We would like to share our research and knowledge of where the jobs of the future lie.

Some of the strong growth areas which align to our courses include:

Video showcase

We are busy producing a series of short videos to show students our industry areas and facilities. Check out the Health and Nursing video below.

What we can do for you

We are looking for the best ways we can help schools help their students.  You know your students and we would like to tap into that knowledge and help students get the right study option advice.  We offer a variety of solutions to help schools in the north metropolitan region promote TAFE as a further study option.

North Metropolitan TAFE has two dedicated Student Liaison Officers that provide information to future students and support for schools.

Please contact schools@nmtafe.wa.edu.au to request specific course information or discuss one of the services we provide.

School tours

We realise that for many students checking out our incredible facilities and equipment first hand might be the inspiration they need to enrol.  In our experience however, a long tour of everything is too boring for most young people.  The best results come from only showing them the areas they are interested in.  For this reason, we now offer targeted campus tours to provide an opportunity for school students studying a relevant subject or vocational program to visit a North Metropolitan TAFE industry area facility. Please note we do not offer whole campus tours.

School expos

Over the years we have been to many expos and information evenings.  Our research suggests that for many of our young people and their parents and caregivers, a general presentation to a big crowd does not always hit the mark. We would love to talk to you about your school expos/information evenings or event and see how our attendance would add value.

Please contact us with your event details so we can confirm our availability. The 2019 Course Guide and Schools flyer are also available to order for your school event.

If we are not available to attend your event, we can provide you with a customised PowerPoint presentation to suit your requirements.
