North Metropolitan TAFE is a registered Higher Education Provider with the Tertiary Education Quality and Standards Agency (TEQSA). This means you can study higher education courses that include Diploma and Associate Degree qualifications, each designed with engaging learning, teaching and assessment experiences.

Our higher education courses

Our Diploma of Commerce  H411 CRS1400333 qualification is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF).

Please note that we will not be accepting enrolments in 2019 for the following courses:

  • Associate Degree of Visual Art - H413 CRS1400330
  • Associate Degree of Design - CRS1400331

Higher education handbooks
Our course levels explained

Each higher education course has been designed with appropriate learning, teaching, and assessment experiences to enable students to develop our higher education graduate attributes.
The graduate attributes are clearly communicated to staff and students in all course and unit documentation.
 
Bachelor
The Bachelor degree is an undergraduate qualification. It involves three years full-time or equivalent part-time study. At this level graduates have a broad body of knowledge with depth in the underlying principles and concepts in one or more disciplines. You will have the cognitive and creative skills to exercise critical thinking and judgment in identifying and solving problems with intellectual independence. Bachelor graduates apply their knowledge and skills with initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in professional practice and scholarship.
 
Associate Degree
The Associate Degree is an undergraduate qualification. It involves two years full-time or equivalent part-time study. At this level graduates have the cognitive, technical and creative thinking skills to demonstrate a broad understanding of knowledge and ideas with some depth in a discipline.
 
You will have the cognitive, communication and analytical skills to interpret and transmit responses to sometimes complex problems. Associate Degree graduates apply their knowledge and skills initiative and judgment in planning, problem solving and decision making in paraprofessional practice.
 
Diploma - Higher Education
Higher Education diploma courses involve one year full-time study or equivalent part-time study. This diploma is registered with TEQSA and is equivalent to the first year at university. Graded assessments and examinations, and the opportunity to develop academic skills such as critical thinking are features of the higher education diploma courses.

Data in the tables above complies with TEQSA Admissions Transparency Requirements. Further explanation of the fields is provided below.

Data is provided for commencing students only and does not represent the full course enrolment cohort
A. Past higher education study – the commencing student had undertaken past higher education study at university and non-university higher education providers. Includes a bridging or enabling course
B. Past vocational education and training (VET) study – the commencing student had undertaken VET studies prior to commencing the TAFE degree. Excludes VET certificate completed at school (see category D)
C. Work and life experience – students, who left school more than 2 years ago and who were admitted based on previous achievement other than categories A, B, and D. Includes mature aged entry (20 years and over)
D. Recent secondary education completing year 12 within the last 2 years
  • Admitted solely on the basis of ATAR. TAFE degree students do not require an ATAR for entry and as such, students who enter with a WACE are not admitted based on ATAR.
  • Admitted where both ATAR and additional criteria were considered. (E.g. portfolio, audition, extra test, WACE results, STAT results.
  • Admitted on the basis of other criteria only and ATAR was not a factor. This data field, eg: VET certificate completed at school, portfolio, interview,  special consideration, WACE results, STAT results, etc.
