Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP)

The Adult Migrant English Program (AMEP) delivers tuition in the English Language to help eligible adult migrants and refugees settle successfully in Australia.
 
​​The program is available to eligible migrants, from the humanitarian, family and skilled visa groups. The number of hours of free English courses offered depends on individual circumstances.

AMEP teaches more than just English, clients also learn about Australian society, culture and customs. They meet other new migrants, who may have similar experiences and goals, and they make many new friends.
 
There is no charge for eligible migrants and refugees to study through the program. Classes are offered at a choice of locations with centres in Perth, Balga, Midland, Leederville and Joondalup. 
There are two study options:

  • Full time (20 hours per week in the morning or afternoon)
  • Part time (less than 20 hours per week in the morning, afternoon, evening or Saturday mornings)

North Metropolitan TAFE is an Authorised SELECT Pearson VUE Test Centre. Our centre offers a full suite of on demand, industry recognised tests for IT Certification, Academic Admissions, and Professional Licenses.

PTE Academic
​​PTE Academic is a computer-based test which assesses the listening, reading, speaking and writing abilities of both non-native and native speakers of English who need to demonstrate their academic English capability - often to obtain places at English-speaking universities, higher education institutions or as proof of their language ability for a visa application.
 
PTE Academic is endorsed by, and the preferred test of GMAC® — the owners of the Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT®). The test is recognised by universities and colleges worldwide, including those in Western Australia.
 
You can send the results to as many institutions as you choose.
Your results will be available within five (5) business days.

Pearson VUE - IT Academic Admissions & Professional Tests
We also offer Pearson VUE Testing in IT certification programs in Microsoft, Cisco, Amazon Web Services, Oracle etc. 
Professional accreditation testing including CPA Professional, Chartered Institute of Management Accountants.
Academic Admissions comprise UCAT ANZ Consortium for medical, dental and clinical sciences degree programs, and
GMAT Testing used by higher education institutions for admission into MBA programs.

We only administer Pearson VUE tests. Information regarding costs, refunds and bookings are to be made direct to Pearson or book online.

Testing is held in the North Metropolitan TAFE library located left of entry through the automatic glass doors. 
Please arrive at least 30 minutes before your test time.
 
COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update for Pearson VUE Candidates
By appearing to test, you certify that:

  • You have not been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been in close personal contact with someone who has a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis.
  • You have had no flu-like symptoms in the last 14 days, such as fever or chills and a cough, sore throat, or shortness of breath.
  • You have not travelled beyond Western Australia within the last 14 days or been in close personal contact with someone who has travelled beyond Western Australia within the last 14 days.

If you meet the above requirements and enter the test centre, please follow the guidelines below and be aware of the practices in place to protect yourself and other candidates.

Requirements and guidelines

  • Use hand sanitiser at the main entrance of the building.
  • Wash your hands in the restroom before your admission and exam.
  • Use the tissue provided to cover your nose and mouth in case of sneezing or cough.
  • You may bring and wear a medical or non-medical face mask and disposable gloves. These items will be inspected prior to entering the test room.

Due to the evolving situation created by COVID-19, our test centre needs to make some adjustments to the way test the centre is set up to allow for social distancing seat spacing. This is to ensure the health and safety of you and test centre staff. To meet social distancing requirements, the centre needs to allow extra spacing between workstations.

10 seats per test session

Our test centre staff is following strict cleaning regimens after each exam session, including disinfecting all items that candidates come into contact with.

With the above measures, we can work together to ensure a clean and hygienic testing environment.

Occupational English Test (OET)

North Metropolitan TAFE hosts the OET tests for health professionals at our East Perth campus.
 
OET is an English language test designed to meet the specific needs of the healthcare sector. It assesses the language and communication skills of healthcare professionals looking to register and practice in an English-speaking environment. This high-quality test has been designed by world-leading experts in language assessment, and is supported by over 30 years of test development, research and validation.

OET is available up to 12 times a year, it is usually held on Saturdays. We only administer OET so for more information regarding costs, refunds and bookings visit the OET website.
