This online skill set will cover project management principles and provide participants with the tools and templates required to design, implement, and review community-based projects. It will include (but not limited to):
- project life cycle stages, phases and structures relevant to community development
- project planning documents and formats relevant to community development
- priority assessment and analysis
- community asset mapping
Strongly influenced by current industry practice, this skill set encourages participants to reflect on own practice and invites them to stretch their capabilities through the introduction of best practice approaches from around the world.
This online course has been developed by those in industry, for industry. The course structure and content has been designed to suit those working full-time or part-time in a community development role or in a role that collaborates with community on social change projects.
Participants may work across a range of social, environmental, health, recreation, arts and culture sectors; within or for government, not-for-profit or private organisations.
Successfully completing this skill set gives you the opportunity to further your studies by enrolling in the Certificate IV in Community Development or the Diploma of Community Development, you can discuss this with your lecturers.

- Good organisational and time management skills to complete online learning and assessment tasks in their own time
- Participants need to be employed in a role that includes a moderate level of community engagement work to complete this skill set.
- Participants will need to have taken a lead role in designing, implementing, and evaluating a community development projects within the last two years (or within the course timeframe).
- The community development projects can be any type (or scale) but must involve you:
- planning, delivering and evaluating two community projects to address community needs and priorities
- working with others to plan and document the community projects
This skill set delivery will be made up of:
- three x 2 hour online interactive Collaborate workshops covering theory, 9.30am - 11.30am
- self-paced learning using resources provided in Blackboard (learning management system)
- assessment work to be completed in your own time
- online assessment support with the Lecturer (optional), 11.30am - 12.30pm
You will commence the skill set by attending both the online collaborative workshops (dates below). You will then complete assessment tasks using online resources and a work-related project that you are currently working on or have recently completed. Lecturers will be available to assist with finalisation of assessment tasks via two online drop-in sessions.
Orientation information will be sent to students prior to Workshop 1. In this information all the workshops and session dates as well as assessment deadlines will be outlined. You will need to review this information before attending workshop 1.
