Online study

A flexible way to obtain a qualification

North Metropolitan TAFE's online courses are facilitated by qualified lecturers who collaborate closely with you and your classmates during the process.

Through your study, you may take part in a range of other activities including a combination of virtual classrooms (using Blackboard Collaborate), text discussions, journals and blogs, social media, quizzes, web quests, online and offline reading, and study and project activities. National training package rules dictate a significant number of courses may require practical training and assessment such as work placements, on campus workshops, or face to face assessments.

Course information

Commerce (Business & Finance)

  • Each unit will require an average of 3-6 hours per week for learning and assessments.
  • All courses have been structured so that students are able to complete the course in 2 years or less. Typically, online courses take longer to complete than on-campus courses because they are designed for students who need to learn flexibly while juggling other commitments in their lives.
  • You will be required to complete the Stages sequentially and pass each Stage before moving on to the next Stage i.e. you will need to complete all units in Stage 1 prior to enrolling in any units in Stage 2.  Upon receipt of a successful application, applicants enrolling in a new course will be enrolled in Stage 1 of the course and continuing students will be enrolled in the next stage of their studies.
  • If you are unsure whether you should study a Diploma qualification, without having already completed a relevant Certificate IV, please let us know and we can put you in touch with a Lecturer to give you further advice. Our website also includes further useful information on what to expect and job outcomes. Note, some qualifications may also have mandatory entrance requirements (eg. Diploma of Accounting).
  • All online students are required to setup and monitor their TAFE email address and follow all other instructions provided with enrolment confirmation.
  • For course information including fees, units and stages please refer to the Indicative fees section below..
