Introduction into Digital Engineering, BIM and ISO 19650

TAFE is the only training provider in WA offering a practice-based introduction to BIM

This course will introduce you to Building Information Management (BIM), digital engineering and the requirements of ISO 19650. Architects undertaking this course may be eligible for up to five CPD points.

Course aim

To provide a practice-based introduction into Building Information Management, Digital Engineering and the requirements of ISO 19650.
The accent will be on Digital Engineering initiatives in various State Governments and the push towards a common framework for digital design, construction and operation, awareness and a basic understanding of all practical steps involved in the digital delivery of building and infrastructure.

Sessions
Session 1
  • Understanding the framework
  • Introduction to ISO19650, NatSpec BIM and other resources
  • Understanding what Information do I need from the client?
  • What obligations and roles do architects, consultants, builders and subcontractors have in BIM projects?
  • What are you required to deliver?

Presented by Michael Ruehr

Michael is the Group Revit Application Specialist at HASSELL. He has over 40 years experience in all facets of the building industry, working throughout Germany, India and Australia. Michael oversees and supports some of Australia’s biggest and most advanced digital engineering and BIM projects. He is also actively involved in international and Australian policy creation in this field. He brings together contractual, procedural and technical understanding of the challenges ahead. Michael has worked on some of Australia largest infrastructure projects including:

  • Optus Stadium
  • New Perth Museum
  • Four of WA Hospitals
Session 2
  • To demonstrate practical methods of Revit modelling that enables good construction documentation and processes/output
  • Facilitating correct data input, scheduling and management that comply with BIM standards
  • The material covered will be tailored to suit the majority of the attendees.

Presented by Shane Furlonger

Shane is currently employed by Hassell as a Project BIM Manager. He has been working with Revit for 15 years and specialises in producing architectural models that enable easy transition from concept to construction documentation and beyond. Shane's recent projects include:

  • Perth Stadium Station
  • St Ives Lifestyle Village – Perth
  • The Ribbon – Sydney
  • Ezone UWA – Perth
  • Karingal Green Aged Care – Perth
  • Queens Wharf – Brisbane
Session 3
  • Provides a summary of the requirements for successfully defining, inputting and maintaining digital data during the design and construction phases of a project
  • Where is the required data contractually defined?
  • How and where the data parameters are defined within the model
  • Managing and maintaining the data within the digital model.

Presented by Phil Davies

Phil is currently a Project BIM Manager at HASSELL. He has over 20 years experience working with design technology solutions within the building industry and has been performing BIM Management roles on large scale architectural projects here in WA since 2008. Phil previously spent 10 years as an Autodesk Software Applications Engineer within the UK. He has held the position of lead consultant BIM Manager on:

  • New Perth Museum
  • Optus Stadium
  • New Children’s Hospital - Telethon Kids
  • Perth Airport: Arrivals, Terminal 1 Expansion and New Pier
Session 4
  • To provide a general understanding of Asset Information Requirements (AIR) in the project lifecycle
  • Alignment model data with AIR from client
  • Define workflow to capture and manage data in the model and/or data placeholder.

Presented by Gus Purusha

Gus Purusha is the BIM Manager working for the FAL project at Salini Impregillo NRW JV. He has over 15 years of BIM experience working on projects across Australia and South East Asia. Gus has worked on a diverse range of projects across various sectors including infrastructure, healthcare, education, hospitality, plus residential and commercial. Having previously delivered a few projects for FM handovers, Gus has a special interest for data management from BIM to FM. Hius project involvement includes:

About your lecturer

Martine Cason is a Fellow Architect with 34 years of architectural experience. She has been lecturing at TAFE since 2010 in conjunction with running her own practice. Martine is currently implementing the BIM process into her office. Martine is also on the AIA BIM committee who are actively involved with BIM processes.
