Our Future Chef Job Ready Program will help you turn a passion for food into an exciting career in hospitality.
This Free for eligible students*, four week Future Chef Job Ready Program is designed to get you into the creative food and restaurant industry.
You'll gain a combination of intensive training and work experience in a real commercial kitchen which may give you a head start into gaining an apprenticeship or other employment opportunities in the hospitality sector.
The four week program includes a total of five days work placement where you will gain real, hands on industry experience in addition to in class training.
After completing this Job Ready Program you could:
- be offered an apprenticeship
- find employment opportunities in other areas of the hospitality sector
- embark on further training to enhance your employment prospects.
- Prepare and present simple dishes
- Use a range of food preparation equipment
- Prepare food safely and hygienically
This course remains FEE FREE in 2024! The course fees are 100 per cent subsidised by the WA State Government for WA residents.

This job ready skill set is part of the Skills Ready program. All job ready skill sets are available for everyone to study, some are free for everyone, some are free for eligible people (including displaced workers, concession students and youth up to 25 years not at school).

The Future Chef Job Ready Program is free for eligible students.
However, all students will need to supply their own chef uniform at a cost of approximately $120 and closed-in shoes at your own expense.
If you are eligible for free training you may be able to get financial assistance from your Jobactive provider to purchase these items.

Free training
The free training is available to residents of Western Australia, and eligibility requirements apply to some of the free training, as outlined on the Free job ready skill sets page and the Infection control training page. Tuition and resource fees will apply for non-eligible students.
