You'll build upon your knowledge in a variety of photographic genres, including domestic, commercial, scientific and artistic creativity with this Advanced Diploma qualification.
Please note: Completion of CUA50915 AZM2 Diploma of Photography and Photo Imaging (or equivalent) is necessary to gain entry to this Advanced Diploma course.

North Metro TAFE's lecturing staff are closely involved with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (and other professional bodies) and you'll be encouraged to participate on both a state and national level with events run by them. A large number of our students, past and present have taken up membership with these professional bodies who only accept industry competent practitioners as members.

Take your photos to a new level

This course will teach you how to use Lightroom, from basic techniques through to more advanced applications (such as portrait retouching). Moving beyond just taking photographs, this course will help you develop your body of work and lead you down the path to getting the work shown to a wider audience.
This is a practical course - you will have access to a computer in the classroom to use the techniques and methods as they are explained and demonstrated by the lecturer.

Photo restoration & editing in a day

You'll learn how to prepare and scan precious original photographic prints and then repair, rebuild and enhance images to prepare them for use as new prints and as digital files. This courses is designed for people who wish to fix old family and historical photographs to share and preserve for perpetuity. This work can simply be done with a scanner and a computer running Photoshop.

What to Bring

  • Students are encouraged to bring their own prints that require restoration work.
  • A USB to save work completed during the course.

Capture the world around you in a frozen image of time

You'll learn how to take spectacular shots in a range of contexts and how to manipulate the environment around you to help with your photography. You'll also complete projects that will require you to consider a range of variables such as client needs and aesthetics.

Photography - the traditional way

The course is aimed at photographers who want to move away from the clinical environment of the digital lab and rediscover the magic of traditional wet darkroom photography processes. The course provides black and white film developing and print making techniques. It includes a large component of self-directed darkroom time where you may use the facilities under the guidance of the lecturer to refine your black and white printing skills. You may print your own negatives or those existing in your family archives.

As a photographer, do you want to learn Photoshop fundamentals?

In this five week introductory course you will be taken from the ground up to develop a sound understanding of the photography related principles that are used in Photoshop.

You will be guided through a workflow from digital capture to the production of photographic quality prints and social media content.
This course is taught on Apple computers using industry standard colour managed monitors. Basic instruction in the use of a Mac computer is included in the course. Use of the Adobe Photoshop program is virtually identical on a Mac or PC platform.
