Early Childhood Aboriginal Skill Set

An exciting start to a rewarding career

The Early Childhood Aboriginal Skill Set is a unique set of three units designed to give Aboriginal students an exciting start toward a career in early childhood.

The course is delivered by a lecturer with knowledge in Aboriginal culture and learning styles and is supported by an Aboriginal mentor. It is based on the Aboriginal Cultural Standards Framework and aims to provide a culturally safe learning environment.

Non-Aboriginal students can apply through interview.

  • Sound English language skills including reading and writing
Half price*

  • All students aged 15-24 years
  • Persons and dependents of persons holding: 
    • a pensioner concession card;
    • a repatriation health benefits card issued by the Department of Veterans' Affairs; or
    • a Health Care Card
  • Persons and dependents of persons in receipt of the Youth Allowance, AUSTUDY or ABSTUDY
  • Persons and dependents of persons who are inmates of a custodial institution
  • Secondary school-aged persons, not enrolled at school.

This course includes a non-assessed work experience placement in an Aboriginal kindy and a practicum in a childcare centre.

You will need to obtain a Working with Children Check card.
