Looking to build on your surveying skills?

Equip yourself with the practical skills to support a surveying team by enrolling into the Certificate IV in Surveying and Spatial Information Services. This course is an ideal stepping-stone to further your training in the surveying and spatial information industry. During your studies, you will learn how to use surveying technologies and software to capture, process and present electronic data. You will also have access to surveying equipment in order to produce computer-aided drawings and survey plans so that you can prepare and present Geographic Information System (GIS) data.

Practical skills are combined, with important analytical skills like maintaining workplace safety and developing environmentally sustainable methods.
Our lecturers are experts in the field with close ties to industry to ensure our training reflects the latest industry practices.

Half-price

This qualification is directly aligned with priority industry areas where jobs are today, and into the future. As part of the state government Lower fees, local skills program, through to 31 December 2025 you'll only pay half the tuition fees (plus resource fee) capped at $1,200; or $400 if you're aged 15—24 or eligible for a concession.

^ You will pay half price for the tuition fees on the Lower fees, local skills qualifications, however other fees may apply such as Resource fees that are specific to your course. For full details see our Half price courses page.

If this course is deemed competitive, you will be informed during your application via TAFE Admissions and additional entrance requirements will apply.

School Leaver Non-School Leaver AQF
C Grades in Year 11 WACE General English, and OLNA; or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 11 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate II or Certificate III

You will need to have completed CPP30221 Certificate III in Surveying and Spatial Information Services.

You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.

On campus

This course requires your attendance in class for 4 days per week when studied full time.   

At-home study

As well as the in-class component, you will need to complete additional study of around 12 hours each week outside of scheduled classes, including private study, assignment preparation, and research.

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.

Additional costs include:

  • Survey bond of $200 to be paid at start of course. This bond can carry through to the Advanced Diploma of Surveying and will be refunded on course completion, provided there have been no equipment breakages.​ ​
  • A scientific calculator. Indicative cost (student price) for a bundled package (calculator & software) is approximately $249.00. This is a course requirement and further information regarding brand and software is provided on enrolment.
