This course provides an in-depth look at the legal system including courts and legal personnel and law matters.

Topics include legal communication, research, evidence law, criminal law, compliance, drafting complex legal documents and the protection of information.
Our team of lecturers engaged in the Certificate IV in Legal Services are highly experienced with strong industry ties to guide the delivery using the most relevant Industry information. 

Upon successful completion of this course you'll be able to provide legal direction and support in legal matters within the government or private sector job roles.

Jade invites all NMTAFE Legal Studies students to stay up to date with the latest decisions of Australian and International Courts and Tribunals, and Australian legislation. New, revised, updated and so much more sophisticated, JADE takes your online legal research to a whole new level.

C Grades in Year 11 WACE General English, and OLNA; or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 11 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate II or Certificate III

On campus

Classes will be delivered over 4 days per week, made up of 3 full days and 1 half day.

One unit will be delivered through a combination of classroom based and online delivery on a Friday. The online delivery will consist of Collaborate sessions (may be recorded) and self paced tasks. On campus assessment may also be required.

Online

To successfully complete the course, it's recommended you have access to a PC, Laptop or Chromebook with a camera and microphone (inbuilt or separately) with reliable internet access. Tablets are not recommended.

Live Collaborate sessions (online with a lecturer) are held 2-3 times per term (will be recorded)
Online delivery is not self-paced and assessments are subject to due dates across the semester. 

Unit availability is once per year (semester one unit release and semester 2 unit release).

To complete the course online within one year, you'll need to:

  • Attend regularly to scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 10 - 12 hours per week individual study
  • Complete 5 - 6 units per semester (6 months)

To spread the course online over two years, you'll need to:

  • Attend regularly to scheduled online sessions
  • Spend 4 - 6 hours per week individual study
  • Complete 2 - 3 units per semester (6 months)
At-home study

Study outside of class hours, including private study, assignment preparation, and research will be required to successfully complete your course.

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.

As a student you will also have additional costs associated with your study, for example text books and stationery, printing and other materials required for your assignments.
