Certificate III in Mining Exploration

Are you ready to unearth a fine career?

This mining exploration course will prepare you for work as a pit technician and underground technician. You'll learn how to collect and analyse geological samples, record information, and look after the practical tasks involved in servicing a remote field operation.
In addition, you will also learn basic vehicle maintenance, mining computing, first aid and mining methods. If you have a manual driver's license, you will have the option of enrolling in the 4WD unit to improve your employability.

North Metropolitan TAFE is offering skill sets from the Certificate III in Mining Exploration to provide you with the skills you need to be able to apply for entry level jobs such as geological assistant, geological field assistant, drilling offsider or labourer.  If you are interested in studying with us in second semester register your interest now.

Even if you have no, or limited experience in a mining environment, completion of these skill sets will equip you to begin working in the field, in exploration or in a pit or underground mining environment.

RII30515-SS-C Mining Field Operations duration 1 day per week

RII30515-SS-B Geological Assistant duration 3 days per week

It is recommended that you undertake these two skill sets at the same time to give you the best chance to find employment in the resources sector.

Completion of the following additional units will see you obtain the Certificate III in Mining Exploration.

  • RIIVEH305E Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle (this unit is also available as a separate two day skill set RII30515-SS-A Operate and maintain a four wheel drive vehicle will increase your employability in the mining industry).
  • HLTAID003 Provide first aid
  • HLTAID006 Provide advanced first aid
  • BSBDIV301 Work effectively with diversity
  • BSBSU301 Implement and monitor environmentally sustainable work practices

Course fees are made up of two components, tuition fees and resource fees.

Tuition fees are determined by multiplying the course fee rate by the nominal hours, which is the number of hours in which an average student could be expected to complete each unit. They are not the hours of training or instruction.

Resource fees are charges for material that are essential to a course or unit, and are purchased by NMT to be used by students during the course.

Fees may vary depending on the units you are enrolled in so an approximate amount has been shown. You will be given the exact amount of your fees at enrolment. Part time student fees will vary depending on the number of units you are enrolled in.

Please note, you may also need to buy textbooks or equipment for your course.
