This course will give you the necessary skills and knowledge to work in a small health service such as a medical reception, allied health service or hospital setting.
You will study business office units alongside specialised medical units that will equip you with the skills to meet the current needs of the medical industry. However, some of the courses require a practical component or assessment that can't be done online, and some may be a mix of online and on campus learning. You'll be able to access your personal timetable (find out how on our Timetables page), once you have paid your fees. In the meantime the information below provides an indication of the time commitment required to complete this course, depending on available study options.
On campus delivery
Classes will be run over three days per week for six months when you study full-time, on campus. This includes some online 'working from home' sessions. Days of delivery on campus are Tuesday to Friday, plus one week working from home (you'll be given the dates for this week when you enrol).
You can also study this course part-time, over one and a half days per week for six months (one semester). It will take you one year (two semesters) to complete the course this way, enrolling in 6 or 7 of the 13 units each semester. You will need approval from the Head of Program to enrol part-time.
Indicative timetable (subject to change)
- Tuesdays, 9.00am - 4.15pm (Business document and workplace wellness units)
- Wednesdays, 9.00am - 3.15pm (Team skills units)
- Thursdays, 9.00 am - 5.15pm (Elective and workplace wellness units)
Online delivery
To successfully complete the course, it's recommended you have access to a PC, Laptop or Chromebook with a Camera and microphone (inbuilt or separately) with reliable internet access. Tablets are not recommended.
This course requires your weekly attendance for online scheduled classes (Live Collaborate sessions that may be recorded).
Attendance on campus is required for an assessment and you will be advised of options when you enrol. If attendance is not possible alternative arrangements may be available.
Online delivery can take up to two years to complete, depending on your other commitments.
To complete the course within one year, you'll need to:
- Attend regularly to scheduled online sessions
- Spend 10 - 12 hours per week individual study
- Complete 6 - 7 units per semester (6 months)
To spread the course over two years, you'll need to:
- Attend regularly to scheduled online sessions
- Spend 4 - 6 hours per week individual study
- Complete 3 - 4 units per semester (6 months)

Bring your own device (BYOD) is encouraged but not essential. If you don’t have access to a computer and WiFi at home, we recommend using our library computers during library hours.
