If you’re looking to work in commercial kitchen environments in restaurants, hotels, cafes, care facilities or schools, this pre-apprenticeship course could be just the kick start your career needs. The course is delivered in partnership with Hospitality Group Training (HGT) the largest employer of hospitality apprentices in WA.
You’ll gain practical food preparation and cookery skills through work placements in professional kitchens. Upon completion of this course, you will have the skills required to begin a commercial cookery or chef apprenticeship.

Work experience with hand-picked employers

As part of this course, HGT will match you with hospitality employers where you will gain work experience. On completion of this, successful and suitable graduates will be guaranteed apprenticeship positions.

OLNA or NAPLAN 9 Band 8 C Grades in Year 10 English and Maths or equivalent Certificate I or Certificate II
Important information

There will be a compulsory orientation session for enrolled students on Monday 26 October 2020 from 8am - 12 pm.
The course will then run over 4 days per week, Monday to Thursday.

Classes will commence on Monday 2 November 2020, run through to Thursday 10 December 2020 after which there will be a holiday break.
Classes will recommence on Monday 11 January 2021 and finish on Thursday 28 January 2021.

- Fees might differ between courses delivered at different campuses due to the elective units included in the course study plan or adapting courses to meet local industry needs.
- Fees may also differ for each individual student depending on the units of study selected, prior qualifications and recognition of prior learning.
- Fees are payable at enrolment each semester for the units enrolled for that period. Some year-long courses might have a bigger fee load in the first semester. 
- Proof of concession must be presented to access concession rates if eligible.
- For secondary school aged persons (in 2020, students born on or after 1 July 2002 who are at least 15 years old) undertaking training that is not part of a VET Delivered to Secondary Schools program, the maximum course fee chargeable in 2020 is $420 plus the resource fees and discretionary fees. 
- Prices quoted include resource fees, but do not include material fees such as the cost of books, uniforms (eg chef's uniform) and student's personal equipment (eg knives for cookery students).
- The course fee cap applicable to Diplomas and Advanced Diplomas only applies during the current calendar year, so fees might differ for students enrolling in semester 2.
- VET Student Loans Eligible Courses and Caps may be subject to changes implemented by the Australian Government 
- Concessions and Secondary School Age cap do not apply to commercial courses, or Foundation Programs (ESL, General Education, etc.)

During your course of study, NMTAFE may use a variety of learning practices to ensure you get the best outcome for your learning journey.
