Cover glazing techniques

Whether you are a ceramicist or potter looking to explore and experiment, or an art teacher/technician wanting to complete some professional development in a ceramics studio environment, this skill set will extend the scope of your current techniques and help you ensure safe creative practice.

NMT is the only higher learning institution with formal qualifications in ceramics in WA. We have dedicated facilities and world-renowned ceramicists as lecturers.

This specialist glazing skill set covers the science and technology of glazing pottery, porcelain and ceramics as well as the various techniques that can be employed.

To be able to make the most of the techniques and skills covered in these ceramics extension skill sets you will need to provide evidence of one of the following criteria:

  • Successful completion of the unit from the Certificate IV in Visual Arts course
    "CUACER401 - Experiment with techniques to produce ceramics" 
  • Participation in North Metropolitan TAFE's leisure Ceramics courses for 1 year continuously or attendance at lifestyle courses at an art centre for at least 3 years
  • Employment as an Art Teacher at a school/art centre with at least 2 years of ceramics teaching experience
  • A Bachelor of Fine Art or Associate Degree in Fine Art with demonstrated ceramics practice for at least 3 years
  • Demonstrated experience in producing high level ceramics art pieces through your own practice

Timetable
Classes run Mondays and Wednesdays, 5.00pm – 8.00pm.

This course may not lead to a specific job outcome, but if you are a self-practicing artist or a teacher -  this skill set will enhance your skills and if you are a technician working in the field of ceramics will give you formal qualifications in glazing techniques.

This skill set covers two units from the Advanced Diploma of Visual Arts.
