Sign up process
Before signing a training contract, you should familiarise yourself with the information provided by Fair Work in the Guide to taking on an apprentice(opens in a new tab) .
Once you have recruited an Apprentice or trainee, you need to work with an Apprentice Connect Australia Provider. Apprentice Connect Australia Providers are the first point of contact to get started. They connect apprentices and trainees with employers and support you throughout your apprenticeship. There are three in WA:
- Apprenticeship Support Australia (CCIWA)(opens in a new tab)
- Apprenticeship Community Busy at Work(opens in a new tab)
- MEGT(opens in a new tab)
As well as assisting with the sign up of your apprentice, Connect Providers can also talk to you about the financial incentives(opens in a new tab) available to both apprentices and their employers.
Once a contract is signed your contracted provider will lodge the contract with the DTWD Apprenticeship Office and confirm NMTAFE as the preferred provider.
Once the contract is registered, we will be advised that we are the RTO, and we will commence the process of developing your training plan.
The training plan
The training plan is used to monitor progress and record achieved competencies during the course of a training contract and must be negotiated and agreed to by the employer, the apprentice, and the registered training organisation.
You should identify any possible credit transfers from prior study or Recognition of Prior learning from prior workplace experience so that NMTAFE can take these into account when developing the training plan. Early identification of credits is also key to ensuring correct scheduling.
The training plan will need to be signed within six weeks of the training contract registration date by the employer and employee, and if the employee is under 18 years of age, a parent or guardian signature will also be required. A signed training plan must be registered with the RTO before incentive claims can be made.
