5 Day Shotfiring Skill Set

This is the theoretical component of a skill set required for a Western Australian Shotfiring Licence, giving you a licence for surface operations outside of town boundaries (Restricted).
It covers all the training requirements as stipulated by the Department of Mines, Industry Regulations and Safety (DMIRS).

It is designed for blast crew members with a minimum of 3 months experience. You'll require access to an onsite assessor with TAE40110 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment, as well as an onsite subject matter expert (eg shotfirer).
This skill set gives you the foundation you need so you can do further study on your way to becoming a site drill or blast engineer
Successful completion of this skill set will also give you partial completion of RII30115 Certificate III in Surface Extract Operations.

  • RIIRIS201D Conduct local risk control
  • RIIBEF201D Plan and organise work
  • RIIBLA201D Support shotfiring operations
  • RIIBLA301D Conduct surface shotfiring operations
  • RIIBLA205D Store, handle and transport explosives
  • RIIBLA305D Conduct secondary blasting
  • RIICOM302D Communicate workplace information
  • You must have 3 months of experience as a blast crew member and be 18 years of age to enrol in this skill set.
    You will need a shirt and closed in shoes for the theory sessions.
