Courses for leisure

If you've always longed to try something, want to add some new skills to your repertoire, or just explore an existing passion, then you've come to the right place.

Whether you want to learn how to take better photographs, develop your painting skills or speak a new language, have an in-depth browse of our offerings and discover a surprising collection of short courses to tempt you. 

Run four terms a year from our convenient inner city locations — with new courses coming on board all the time.  

How to enrol
There are a couple of ways to enrol in a leisure Short Course:

We will contact you to confirm your enrolment.

Alternatively you can call us in business hours and we will arrange your enrolment and payment over the phone.

Term Dates
We run four programs of courses a year. Our most popular courses run every term, while some specialised courses are only offered once or twice a year.

Term 1 — Summer 

Bookings open in early January with most courses commencing in the second or third week of February.

Term 2 — Autumn

Bookings open in early April with most courses commencing in early May.

Term 3 — Winter

Bookings open in the middle of June with most courses starting at the end of July or early August.

Term 4 — Spring

Bookings open in early September with most courses commencing in the middle of October.

Locations and Parking

Getting to us

The majority of short courses are delivered through North Metropolitan TAFE's Perth campus which is conveniently located near the Perth Cultural Centre in Northbridge.
Our music courses are run from our Leederville campus and our interactive media courses are run at East Perth.
We are easily accessible via public transport and there is plenty of paid parking, near each campus.


The closest station to Northbridge campus is Perth Central Station and we are a 5 -10 minute walk. Take the exits towards the Cultural Centre and walk past the State Library to Francis Street, and then through to Aberdeen St.
Our Leederville campus is only a short walk from Leederville station, just walk straight up Oxford Street.
East Perth campus is located right near Claisebrook Station.


The Northbridge campus is located at Stop number 7 on the Blue CAT service, and accessible by many services along William, Aberdeen and Newcastle Street. 
East Perth campus is located on the Yellow Cat route, stop number 3.. 
For Leederville campus, catch bus 15 and alight at stops 12657 or 12678.


At Northbridge there is paid street parking available, alternatively the City of Perth has a large parking station under the State Library, with the entrance at 15 Francis Street.
There is paid and free parking around our Leederville campus.
City of Perth operate a car park next to our East Perth campus.

Courses are run in several buildings that are all accessible from Aberdeen St.

From this campus we deliver our visual arts courses.
19 Aberdeen St (Building 6)
Our Photography, 3D and Fashion and Textiles courses are delivered at this campus.

25 Aberdeen St (Building 1)
All of our language courses are delivered here.
133 Newcastle St (Building 4 - accessed via 12 Aberdeen St)
Our printing, jewellery, multi media and graphic design courses are delivered in this building.

Frequently Asked Questions
Q  Where is my course being held?
A  The short courses are held in one of our 3 campuses – Northbridge, Leederville and East Perth.
Q  Are there additional costs for the course?
A  Any materials that you may need to purchase are highlighted in the What to bring tab. You will be advised if any additional materials will be required for the course.  
Q  I have special mobility/learning needs what can I do?
A  We are committed to ensuring people with a disability have access to our services, programs and facilities. If you have any medical conditions, disability or special requirements that may affect course participation, please contact us before making your enrolment or booking.
Q  What is your payment and refund policy?
A   1. Full payment must be made upon enrolment.
      2. For online, phone and email enrolments, payment must be paid with credit card (MasterCard, VISA)
      3. No refund will be given for absenteeism. 
      4. No full or partial refund will be given for withdrawal on or after the day of commencement of the course. 
      5. Full refund will be made under the following circumstances –
          a. Course cancelled due to insufficient numbers, lecturer absentee and other circumstances beyond our control
          b. Course time change is unsuitable
          c. Medical circumstances prior to commencement of course. Doctor’s certificate required.
     6. If you wish to cancel your enrolment, you must do so 14 days before the courses commencement date and you will receive a credit note until 31 December of the year you enrolled. 
Q  Is there a particular age group for your courses?
A  At North Metropolitan TAFE we aim to promote adult lifelong learning, and courses are specifically designed to cater for the adult audience. Attendees 15 -17 years may attend with the written consent of their parent/guardian approval.
Q  Where do I park and how do I find the venue?

Q  Do you supply concessions and discounts?
A  Unfortunately there are no concession rates for our short courses, however, keep your eye out for seasonal discounts coming soon!
Q  When will I obtain my confirmation details?
A  You will receive official course confirmation details approximately five (5) days prior to the course commencement.
Q  What are my options if my course is cancelled?
A  If a course is cancelled, you will have the option of transferring to another course or obtaining a refund.
